In 1973, a craftsman in Bovey Tracy began making Solitaire and other boardgames in his garage and selling them at local craft fairs. Looking around for interesting playing pieces, he realised that if he wanted colourful and unusual glass marbles, he was going to have to find them for himself - and so House of Marbles was born. You can come and watch glass blowers at work between 9am and 4.30 pm from Monday to Friday all year round, and from 10am to 3pm on Sundays between Easter and September 30th. This fascinating and absorbing art is wonderful to watch, as the glassblowers shape items including paperweights, wine glasses, scent bottles and of course the famous and huge Victorian replica marbles. |
