Dawlish Warren is located at the west side of the mouth of the River Exe that separates it from Exmouth. The beach is smooth and sandy with patches of grass banks in dunes further inland. The terrain can often provide shelter for bathers during the hot season when the weather hits its peaks. The sea water is a clear blue and moves slowly north usually with a gentle current. It is protected from sewage due to the modern sewage systems of downstream towns such as Dawlish. The dog restrictions and litter prohibition further enforce the cleanliness of the beach, and this has gained it the seaside blue flag award. 
During the summer season the waters are active with bathers and sea-sporters. Jet-skiing is common, and locals provide the hire of such vehicles. Overlooking the activities is a team of lifeguards, constantly vigilant and enforcing a feeling of safety and security for families. On the mainland the Warren provides many amenities for the visitor.

The nature reserve is one of the regions protected spots with rare wildlife including flowers and birds. Situated close to the beach and connected to the coastal paths that run from Teignmouth, Powderham, Cockwood and Starcross, it is ideal for ramblers and those who enjoy wildlife. |
