Thanks for these contacts. I'll use them next time I'm in town if I spot anything.

Well, it's clear from these responses that people don't agree with the propaganda that anti-social behaviour is reducing. However, with police resources so low, I reckon the cops can only do so much. Perhaps they can be a bit tougher on the yobs who are gradually ruining Dawlish, but maybe they've got bigger problems in Newton or Exeter to deal with. In reality, it needs the community of ...

I only wish this were true. During two visits to Dawlish this year - a week at Easter and one in May - me and this missus thought the town's problem with drunkeness and homelessness was the worst it's ever been. At Easter, we witnessed a drunk having a wee on the seafront just near the railway station in full view of children (reported to police), our son picked up a dirty needle on the beech ...

Got some happy memories of this place, mostly from the late 80s when it was run by a really nice oldish guy who, as a five-year-old, I simply called 'Little Man'. However, time moves on and it always seemed to struggle to recapture that same magic. I had high hopes when the guy from Coryton's cafe took it over three or so years back, but perhaps the upkeep of a pretty basic building battling ...

Owing to the restricted space on the sea wall and the sheer drop, cyclists are a danger to themselves and law-abiding people who walk/jog along the route. Well done to the police for acting on the growing concerns about a selfish minority of cyclists. To be fair, most cyclists realise that councils have bent over backwards to provide cycle lanes, expensive scenic routes (Powderham - Turf) so they ...

This is really sad news. I saw this show up at the Warren car boot sale field a few years back and it was great entertainment. I guess a daredevil show brings with it a massive amount of risk, but this sounds like a dreadful tragedy and you wonder if it could have been avoided.

If the police have taken some positive action, then good - it's about time!! The problem is that these layabouts and louts have been allowed to annex part of the town centre for so long that it has become a standing joke, hence the 'happy hut' tag. Incidentally, that shelter used to be a great place to sit, relax and look out on the lawn. When I last visited at Easter, it smelled of urine ...

Thanks for the responses folks - much appreciated. It's reassuring to know that the plans don't include the sea wall. I'd love to go to the consultation, but being 270 miles away and holding down a 9-5 makes it awkward. However, I know the good folk of Dawlish will turn out in numbers and have their say. For the record, I think you can keep both cyclists and walkers happy if it's done in the right ...

As someone who visits Dawlish twice a year on holiday, I sincerely hope there will be no attempt to amalgamate the cycle route with the sea wall walking route. The peace and tranquility of walking along the sea wall – Dawlish’s unique selling point in my opinion – would be ruined forever if you were having to step aside for cyclists every 30 seconds. Anyone who doubts this theory should try ...
