The golden sandstone cliffs between Teignmouth and Dawlish are a landmark feature. BUT the mile or so of rail track here has been nothing but trouble. Chris Arnold, Network Rail: "We get a lot of falls, rock falls onto the line, and we've got to sort that out". After a couple of major landslips, an 18 million pound programme of repairs began - starting with a huge fence. Local people are horrified. Tony Brown, Dawlish resident: "Lots of people come to walk along here as part of the South West Coastal foot-path, it's beautiful and when you actually look at the total effect it's extremely ugly".
