Exactly seventy years to the day that the county association (DCLBA) was formed and affiliated to the English Women's Bowling Association (EWBA) at an hotel in the town, a Devon President's team took on the England President's team at Courtenay Park. Seven past presidents of the DCLBA and section secretaries were among a bevy of officials in Margaret Shillabeer's side, while Devon's Sue Harriott (Madeira) played for England under EWBA President Kay Kerley from Hampshire. It was Harriott who enjoyed the biggest margin of victory for England and 2003 DCLBA President Christine Theedom (Crediton) who celebrated Devon's solitary success, thanks to the support of Jan Thomas (Kings), B Smith and Jenny Dawson (Topsham).
THE DCLBA Section 5 Over 55 Pairs final at Bovey Tracey was an all-Starcross affair with Marjorie Shute and Sylvia Davis beating Eileen Martin and Pauline Jarvis 23-16. "And it was a terrific game," said organiser Chris Featherstone from Bishopsteignton. In the semi-finals, Shute beat Dawn Konetsky (Dawlish Lawn) 20-16 with Jarvis beating Dot Bodell and Olive Underhill from Newton Abbot.
