Penalty Fares

Has anyone been hit with a penalty fare on the trains?

Dawlish train station ticket office is often closed and the self service machine doesn't work at times, therefore the train company cannot impose a penalty fare.

Also do the train companies pay the passengers when the trains are late or cancelled! I'd like £20 everytime my train is cancelled or the train is too packed to get on.

Personally I will never pay a penalty fare.

@wondering. this problem was due to the snippet length overflowing the allowed characters and is now fixed.

However, I will leave off posting to facebook for now as I think comments made on facebook need to get posted on here and any replies made on here need to go as comments on facebook under the original post.

Thank you Webmaster ..for what its worth I think the world would be a far better place without Facebook ..and its language but thats just me!

Re the Penalty fare post.

So many try and get a free journey between Dawlish and Newton. There needs to be spot checks at odd times at stations and a premium of say a £1 if you do not have a ticket before travel ..that way people would buy before. If anyone was charged the penalty and the ticket machine is not operational then there would be a refund made. All you have to say to the train crew is the ticket machine is not working, they would be able to check if what you say is true!
