A devon seaside theatre is the latest in a long line to apply for funds from a £60,000 cash pot set aside for community groups. The Shaftesbury Theatre, in Dawlish, is asking the Signpost Neighbourhood Fund for a grant of £2,500 to help bring it up to date. The Echo has teamed up with the Signpost Housing Group to encourage community groups to apply for a share of funding which will be divided up between six areas in the South West. And so far, more than 140 community groups have asked for application forms. Voluntary groups in Exeter and district are expected to be allocated a total of around £10,000, and they can apply for grants of anything between £50 and £2,500. The Shaftesbury Theatre is owned by the Dawlish Repertory Company. It puts on around six shows of its own a year, including a pantomime, and loans the theatre out to others, such as the local operatic society.
