This is always an interesting read in the two local rags. I always look out for anyone from Dawlish, and sadly someone from the town is listed again this week. I think I'll make this a weekly update on here....................................................................................................................................................................................... Thomas Lee DAVIES, Kingsdown Crescent, Dawlish. Age 19. Guilty of damaging cars in Teignmouth and Dawlish on 27th December 2011. 150 hours unpaid work, £398 compensation, £85 costs.

No Dawlishians in court in the latest reports; however the person from the Midlands who allegedly tried to defraud those elderly persons in Dawlish and Starcross has pleaded 'not guilty'.

Nelson, this is a nasty and unnecessary thread!

Nelson
Nelson
02 Mar 2012 06:59

Its already in the public domain!!!! Just buy either local newspaper to see the full listing. Why is it nasty, seriously? Its a public interest thread surely? I'm a firm believer in 'do the crime, serve the time'!!!

Well done Nelson . If you travel around the country you will see lists like these in all the papers . Nothing at all Nasty about what you are doing. They are all guilty so whats the problem Dawlish Blue, its time this sort of scum were named and shamed , they have been bringing our town down for too long. I suppose you would rather talk to them and listen to how they had such a bad upbringing and say there there , life has been so tough.

Get them all on community service cleaning up our town and the beaches.

Thank you J.Warrener. Who's really being nasty? The scumbag who burgled my home two years ago, the moron who damaged my car ( and others on the road I lived on) in February last year, or me for warning locals about convicts in our midst? One reason I moved here last autumn was to get away from tax dodging criminal braindeads. I see nothing wrong with naming and shaming. I can only presume DawlishBlue has never been a victim of crime......

Why not name and shame people? If you've nothing to hide then you have nothing to worry about with this thread, and if it makes Nelson feel better after what has happened to him, then what is the problem with that.

If it makes just one person think twice about committing "petty" crime, then that can only be a good thing.

I am content to let those who have never used a mobile phone whilst driving and never broken the speed limit cast the first stone (or first cry, "Scum.")

Nelson

But I've never burgled a house or wilfully damaged another persons hard-earned property. These are people, Don, who have pleaded "Guilty" to their crimes. Do the crime, serve the time.

Nelson: Court reports are postings of fact, they are not discussion items.

Your aim in posting them is to "name and shame", and not to promote discussion. This is a discussion forum and as such is not an appropriate place for such postings. If you want to publicise court decisions on the Internet, there are more appropriate ways to do it, for example you could start a Blog, Facebook page, Squidoo thread, Twitter account, or web page. Create your own web presence for the subject, and don't abuse this discussion forum.

I would like to see this whole thread removed.

Nelson
Nelson
05 Mar 2012 07:26

Well, it certainly has started a discussion!!! Should I re-paste from the newspaper website onto the News section of this website then? Or should we have a discussion about Censorship on the Net?? By the way, there is no such thing as "petty" crime. I'd hate to be having a discussion about your young daughter or grand daughter that got ran over by a car driver who was too lazy or too tight to use a hands free kit.

neilh

05 Mar 2012 10:25

@Nelson - this isn't about censorship on the net at all but appears to be about vindictiveness. i realsie you are bitter about some things which have happened to you in the past but you need to move on. i am neither religious nor christian but there are some interesting lessons in morality in the bible which people can learn from. the one i'm thinking of is "let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone". the associated story (john 8, 1:11) is a really moving account of such attitudes. you might like to read it.

Don Pearson
Don Pearson
05 Mar 2012 12:23

@neilh

It is interesting that the two people referring to the bible should be, in one case, "neither religious nor christian," and in the other, an atheist.

If you must impart this info why not use the news thread

neilh
neilh
05 Mar 2012 13:26

@Don. Hi Don. Yes it is interesting!! And I'm not usually given to quoting the bible (or more accurately the NT part). It just seemed an appropriate analogy in this thread. The bible as a book is many things amongst which it is a collection of thoughts and philosophy about ethics and morality. There is a view that Jesus was the original marxist - he certainly went against much of the dogma of his day. If you take it as a guidance of morality and what could be ethical behaviour then it has validity in parts. Equally you might read Das Kapital and glean from that a philosophy about social justice and injustice - and that may appropriate in another thread, or equally in a more modern vein "The Gift Relationship" by Titmuss.

Anyway, the point is that vindictiveness causes pain and I really felt the hurt expressed by Hedgehog69 caused by the vindictiveness of this thread. I hope that the authors of that vindictiveness feel the shame of that themselves and now stop.

Nelson
Nelson
05 Mar 2012 15:50

Not as vindictive as continuing to use a mobile phone whilst driving, despite the well-documented high number of innocent people that are killed by these selfish drivers!!! I wouldn't go as far as to call this particular criminal "scum", more "lucky" that no one got injured or worse dspite his actions. However, people who rob, assault or cause criminal damage are definitely worthy of the s word.

@neilh, lynne

"Do to others as you would have others do to you in the same circumstances," (Peter Kropotkin) is a pretty good guiding principle. I had better avoid the A word or things could be blown up out of all proportion.

@Don Yes, agree with that completely. I don't recognise the Kropotkin quote but I think he's nicked it!! At the risk of atheistic enagelising yet again, try Luke 6:31 - "Do to others as you would have them do to you".
