I really can't take anything seriously that comes from the mouth of a former oil industry executive, and who now resides in a palace.

As well as the social impact of all these actual and proposed welfare cuts, sorry er ..reforms, there is also the economic one.

As I see it the economic impact will be this:

If benefits are cut back then the amount of money available to be spent by those in receipt of benefits will be cut back. This in turn means demand will be cut back.

Remember: someone's demand for goods and services means it is someone else's job to provide those goods and services. So......when demand falls so do the number of jobs required. And so on and so forth.

Triple dip recession here we come?

The Archbishop is entitled to his opinion but who's going to listen to him when his job is to be deluded.

The church / religion has no bearing on anything nor should it ever have.

If there wasn't any religions this world would be a far better place.

Budget cuts are needed and the fairest sector to cut is benefits.

Not 100% but it's ok at the moment.

Let's just be clear, I'm not saying reduce benefits to zero. However it would be nice to reduce the cost to the tax payer, where possible

and what about people who do work and need a top up to help pay rent etc are they not tax payers?

Paul open your bloody eyes to what is going on, it wont stop here they will move on to other ways to save money. What about people who have paid tax and NI for years and have now found themselves in need of help, the level the gov says you need to live on is £71 per week. out of that you have to pay all your living expenses and now if you fall foul of this bedroom tax 14% of your rent as well, this is going to leave people unable to feed themselves let alone clothes. An MP tried to do this recently for 1week on £18 and found herself in dire straits

The Axminster carpet company has axed several workers who will now find themselves victims of this tax, and what about the taxes theyve paid

IT COULD BE YOU NEXT

@Paul  "the fairest sector to cut is benefits"

How about cutting things we don't need - like the Trident programme, foreign wars, the high-speed train link that for a mere £60 billion gets you from London to Birmingham 20 minutes (?) sooner; and how about a super-tax on bonuses of bankers (especially those who still get bonuses when banks make billions of losses).  That would seem fairer.

The church needs to get its own house in order without getting involved in politics.

Do you know that when they build the new fast HST2 to save 20 minutes on the journey that its expected that the new departure area where it termintaes it will involve 20 minutes to exit!

I would be more impressed if they spent the money on reopening some lines that should never have been closed.

MAILED THIS TO bbcbreakfast@bbc.co.uk,YOU ARE WELCOME TO COPY IT OR ADD TO IT AS YOU SEE FIT
Regarding the article on welfare reforms,we want our voice to be heard,The bedroom tax,is wrong there arent enough 1 or 2 bed houses for people to move to,this is just a money making scam, take from poor, vulnerable, sick of the country. As for dla benefits the government have hired this firm ATOS to take away disabled people benefits, deeming them fit for work, when our doctors, consultants, surgeons have already deemed those people unfit for work. Our doctors train for years, and this company ATOS are walking all over their qualifications.Over 10,000 people have died, and in most cases these disabled people have been deemed unfit for work by the DWP,and DWP medicals, this is why ATOS have been drafted in,to take their disabled benefits away,a nurse blew the whistle on ATOS,which has already been reported.there is no work for people to do,just take a look at the shops and businesses that have ceased trading. This government is taking away security, stability, community, and the basic human rights of the old, sick, vulnerable, young and poor of this country, and we stand together to halt this appalling cull.

@Paul

An idea for you to consider from a pompous old git:

Absorb what people say on the merits of their case, rather than who they are. I am an atheist but do not dismiss what a religious person says simply because they are religious. As another example, I do not assume that I know better than younger people just because I am older.

Paul, it might concern you to know that the Tories are not cutting welfare to saver money.  The Tory's are using the Deficit as a cover to reduce the role of the State including welfare.  There is an ideology at work here that's nothing to do with a saving.  I also found your posting to be appauling.

I trust your job is secure and that your home is paid for

Paul, these cuts have nothing to do with saving tax payers money.  These cuts are talking place becasuse the right wing Tory's are using the defict as a cover to reduce the role of the State.  The Church is right to speak out.  We are back to Dickensian Britain.  Make no mistake about that.

Church needs to keep out of politics.

Yesterday was in a mobile shop and overheard a mum and her son chatting about having the latest mobile ..she said its £50 per month ..Do they actually work out how much they will be paying or can they? £600 thats just one year and it goes on ....£1,200 for 2 years or more,  for a child of about 8 to have a phone and play games. It;s a must have for an 8 year old?

Not sure people are that badly off., most with two to three cars per family, so roads jammed..

No wonder the country is going the way it is when I view some of the comment made on this forum. Not everyone on benefit is a scrounger which IDS has attempted to brainwash the nation to think. A great many hard working people are attempting to get by but now the jobs are part-time, short-term contracts which are paid at minimum wage with less holiday entitlements. There are not enough private properties to rent which are one bedroomed and those that are available landlords do very little to enhance the living conditions of the tenant.

It must be nice to go through life without incurring redundancy, earning a good wage with a good pension at the end of it and be in good health and not be affected by cuts and the mass immigration that has forced those that have been unlucky attempt to find useful, decent paid employment and housing.
