I see it also says they haven't decided whether to replace her.

Also the funding was only for 3years, so I expect she took the opportunity when it presented itself, rather than be out of work

Maybe we will get a new and very dynamic Town Manager, that will work hard to improve things in Dawlish for Locals and visitors.

This may be a great opportunity for Dawlish.

I would like to thank Emma Kay and wish her luck in the future.

I dont think people hate people who have a business in Dawlish, its just that business people do not provide what people want. Dawlish is a victim of its own making, by allowing Sainsburys in with ease of parking and everything in one place. Revamping the Strand and cutting the parking down. Negative as usual wondering your fav subject run Dawlish people down                         She was employed to promote Dawlish and Teignmouth as places to visit by organising events etc. Lots of other things she did, but she was a marketing manager mainly                              this was her job description

Considering that Emma came from East Devon, wouldn't it be better to have a local person employed in that role?

Anyway, good luck Emma in your future employment.

Why would it be better to have a local person?  Genuinely interested to know what real advantage that would be.  And did you just mean someone who happen to live here, rather than someone born here/long term resident.  What defines them as local?

 As far as I can see it doesn't matter where the person is from, as long as they can do the job and do it well.  That means a certain skill base is needed, knowledge of the duties involved in the job.  Great if someone who lives locally can do it, otherwise just get someone in who can do it well for the period left on the contract.

What rubbish about employing a local person.

surely someone coming into the town with some experience of life elsewhere is a bonus?!

...also ..why shouldnt Dawlish have a Sainsburys, a 'proper' supermarket?. (see above)

People moaned enough in 1990's about Gateway/Soemrfield then the Coop.

Anyone coming to Dawlish on holiday or any town come to that expects to see a decent store of some sort.. or they simply move on to a town where there is one.

Ha but is Carol Vorderman's shape real or manufactured. Id look very closely if I were you. Jennifer Lopez does it for me a real womanly body and talented to.

  As for appointments being late that would be better than the previous one who you could never get an appointment with. The post is only really a reporting job so that the likes of Jeremy Christophersand and his crew are able to find out whats going on or more to the point pass the blame book to.

@Duckileaks

So in other words, you are saying that people in Dawlish have no experience of the 'outside world' then!!!

The reason why I suggested that it would be better if a local person had the job was that they would have the good of the town(s) at heart, and not just doing it for the money and getting paid regardless of the results.

Maybe loyalty doesnt seem to matter anymore.

Don't see a call anyway for a Town Manager ..whoever takes it on people wont approve.

Teignmouth has 2 suitable large supermarkets only 3miles away wink all I was trying to point out is that Sainsburys has killed the town, which has no large units apart from Coop, whether I agree with it or not. We did seem to manage before they arrived. When i go on holiday the last thing on my mind is where the nearest supermarket is, as long as there is a general store nearby for neccessities , which there usually is.

Quite right about Dawlish being good at organising Pram races wondering & Airshows & carnivals & parties in the park & street Markets & armed forces day on the lawn & RNLI days on the lawn & Conservation and shareing of wild life & good transpot links & lots of great places to eat and drink & Theartre & Cinema & a Museum & Boat Trips to sea & sea fishig Trips & National Supermarket near-by & indoor swimming pool and sports centre
& Crazy golf and lots more OH &  great friendley people to welcome our visitors I for one think Dawlish is a great place with so many things going on there is a call for a town manager all these events need lots of planning not just the mundane things like extra staff & bins from the resorts dept & traffic & signs ect ect ..   But also the planning of the timing of such events so they dont clash or maybe staged together to compliment one another  A good Town Manager could Improve & add to what we already have Which is a so Lovley Seaside Town that people from all around the country & indeed the world decide to come and spend thier hard earn cash in our Loveley Dawlish which allows many people make a living and live in Dawlish

there is 18 months Funding left I belive we should Wecome support & encourage a new Town Manager to Dawlish What Could they add ? I have lots of suggestions

the axe as you put it is not about the Holmans it is about the misappropriation of public money nepotism in our local council and misleading people when begging for money and casting bad feeling within the town  in the thread in which this subject belongs Questions were raised and the opening post ridiculed the Questions were answered and since then silence from the Questioner's and ridiculer's

Roberta  How has Sainsbury's killed the town it was well and truly dead years before they arrived its not Sainsbury's its down to peoples shopping habbits the internet is most likely to be the culprit and i am as guilty as the next person.   I personaly shop for nearly everything on the web it's cheaper there is more choice, next day delivery folk shop online bank online start relationships online.  6,000 people per day download a bank app, why because it saves time and it's convenient all said and done it is the 21st century banks will go and eventualy so will Sainsburys it's just the way things are and if i at 66 can accept that why cant everybody else.  In truth we don't need supermarkets high streets and even the humble high street bank everything is online and i revel in it i hate shopping and would rather spend a hour on the beach or walking on Haldon than in a shop looking at things i dont want or need.   My children will use the internet nore than i do sorry to say but the HIGH STREET  shop is doomed

Supermarkets are no longer a threat to town centres. Their supply and distribution platform is their weakness as it is not sustainable.  Hundreds of huge lorries pounding up and down the motoways day in day out cannot be relied upon as a sole means of transporting goods. The same model is being used by internet companies to deliver goods and is also their weak link.

Before this system falls apart due to lack of fuel, higher operating costs and ever decreasing road maintainance, we need to boost the alternatives.

Building thousands of houses on potential local farm land needs to cease and the land brought back into food production. This in turn can then be sold locally without being transported hundreds of miles.

Fred   Whatever happened to the good old days of goods trains???? Lorries have only been so prevalent since the demise of transporting supplies from manufacturer to distributor with local supply depots.

Fred supermarkets are fully aware of these things and are looking to the future Tesco are in front with 60% of their lorries on gas or bio fuel they are also having goods moved by barge on the canal sytems.  Tesco are also looking at electric vehicles for local deliveries and are well ahead of the game improvements on alternative fuels are being made daily just look at Fi they are looking at all electric cars with no drop in performance. It wont be long a few years and we will have a electric car with a range of 1000 miles plus and it will probably be driverless tecknology is great is it not.

Is that development (on the old A30between Clyst Honiton and Rockbeare Straight) still going ahead? Last I heard was that it was put on hold.

@Carer

been Internet free for a few days so apologise for delay.

No I don't think people from Dawlish wouldn't have outside experience or nothing to offer but for the entire time that I have lived in Dawlish (20+ years) I have heard the continual bleat that only Dawlish people know what's best for the town.

Utter rollocks!  Living or working or just travelling to other places broadens your outlook.  Some people in this town are so inward looking it's bonkers!

And before anyone jumps I know small towns everywhere are like this!

I see a new Town Manager has been appointed (glad I finally have my copy of Dawlish Gazette!).  Tracy Scranage has lived in Teignmouth for 29 years and is former secretary of the Teignmouth Traders Association as well as recently working at SureStart in Heathfield.  Good luck to Tracy, hopefully she has some great ideas.  Hopefully people will get behind her and give her the support she will need.
