Chancellor George Osborne announced infrastructure investment plans including £5m to develop options for a “more resilient train line in the South West” during the Budget on Wednesday.

The cash will be used to bring forward plans to upgrade the storm-hit line at Dawlish once a study by Network Rail is complete.

Looking closely at what was said I believe the words were 5 million to investigation into a more resilient rail route from Exeter to Newton Abbot. Cant see where it mentioned Dawlish or the current costal line

Yes, a few billion heading north.

Maybe we should all start wearing flat caps, go ferret racing, and say 'trouble at t'mill'. LOL.

Sorry Leatash and Carer but your localism lets you down here. Having worked recovery on the M62 in my younger days I would say its a very worthy case for investment and improvement. Its the only East to West connection capable of maintaining the carraige of goods across that part of the country and onward down to the Midlands and South West. In the Winter months its the only route across country that can safely be kept open in that area and at the best of times is one scary place to be late at night.

Anyway look at it this way any government money spent outside of London has to be money well spent and would you really want an eight lane motorway scouring its way through Devon and Cornwall, think not and niether would I
