Three bedroom house in Exeter rented from Exeter City Council £80 per week, double glazing, gas central heating (extra) Gardens front and rear. A garage if you want it at an extra £1.50 per week. Why are private landlords fleecing everybody? But then again, something is only worth what someone else is prepared to pay and if there are those that wish to pay that sort of money, good luck to them. The bottom has dropped out of the car market, the housing market is beginning to take a knock, although there are those with a vested interest, still talking the market up.

Looks to me as if the Council rented house is way below market price. Which means that the ratepayers are subsidising this rental. I guess that this is not on offer to everyone. Or we'd all be having one. Bardwell

Put your name down on the housing list and find out. There is nothing stopping you putting your name on as many lists as you like. Local authorities (Teignbridge for instance)under the Data Protection Act, have no way of knowing how many list you are on, they only know there is a number on a list, but you could be on two dozen. Get my drift? Your name then becomes as many as you have listed. That is a very cunning way to show that there are more on the waiting list than there really is. Justifies the claim by some that we need more housing.

lol u can put ur name on housing list mines been on it for over 20 years and ive never been offered anything,as for having ur names on list thats ok but unless ur on there case 24 /7 they wont worry and there is nt enough houses out there so renting private is some how the only option and exeter is cheaper to rent than dawlish anyways

jacky you say; "mines been on it for over 20 years" Have you checked lately to see if it is still there? "there is nt enough houses out there" Rubbish! When are they going to occupy those two blocks of flats in East Cliff Road? When are they going to finish off those flats in the High St? Local authorities have a duty to house and under present legislation, they can acquire any property that has been vacant for more that 6 months. Check it out, do not make assumptions based on what they are telling you.

the flats on high street are not council flats they belong to the same people who own the old brewery, and as far as vacant properties stands for council not private u can own 50 houses and its up to u if u rent them out council houses are not as easy to come by as you think, and if you want to know the council dont own any properties any more as they have sold them all to housing assocations

On top of which I believe that the "duty to house" is a duty to house people who are homeless and vulnerable. TDC does everything it can to avoid that duty. I asked a doctor to write to the council a few years ago on behalf of a friend of mine, in his mid-60s, homeless and obviously mentally ill. The doctor did write but said, "Vulnerable to this council, if you are a single man, means sleeping in the street. But it must be snowing." Don
