thankyou for posting this. I have been away 7 weeks so missed all of this & I love the swans, cygets, ducks & geese & love to see them in our town.. Sad that a cygnet dies - they are adorable. I think it was also quite a challenging time of year for it to be born - so maybe not totally unexpected. and it was so soon after the mother had her previous cygnets.

More cygnets on the way in Dawlish as black swans breed for record third time this year

Three eggs have been laid by the same breeding pair of black swans who have already cygnets hatch on two occasions from year.

Extraordinary, isn't it ?  for her to lay eggs again when she's still got such a young cygnet.  Must admit, I did get the impression the other day she wasn't really looking after the young one, hope I'm wrong.  (And yes, good stuff DEEDOODLE, thank you.)

'Borders' is telling us there are a further two eggs!  What realistic chance is there that they can survive an autumn upbringing? - I hope they can, but it will be a shame if all their efforts end up in tragedy.
