Went to "Richleys" this morning to find it being boarded up after I'm told gone into liquidation.Such a shame to lose the only clothing shop in town.We tried supporting it on a few occasions since arriving here 2 months ago and it always seemed empty with just me and my wife there! Wish the staff the best in their future!

Yes wish them well too. Has the Teignmouth store gone too?. I see the Sweet Shop is closed and for sale. The shop was always open all hours could not have done more. Heck whatever next!

How sad. The first thing that people see when getting off the train now, will be an empty shop. The 'face' of Dawlish. I too used to frequent the establishment, and it is a shame. Good luck to the staff.

You know they did teeshirts for just £2 each.. had it been an expensive shop people would not have used it either lol... its all a big mystery!, proof though a shop has to be tourist orintated to succeed.

My honest assessment from the 2 occasions that I've been in the store is that it's problem was that it was stuck in the 1970's. Yes, I know that a lot of the residents in the town are of a more, shall we say, mature age who like to wear a lot of beige, however the spending power lies with younger generations, who frankly wouldn't be seen dead wearing any of the clothing on sale in there. Now, if Moose was to close down, then I'd be seriously worried! My best wishes go to the staff who worked at Stewarts.

Hi I would like to thank you all for wishing the staff of Richleys all the best. I am an ex employee and Im very sad obviously to see the shop go, not least because it means me and my collegues are all out of work and without any warning. I can agree though that a lot of the stuff was very outdated and a lot of the staff would agree with that - however we could only sell what we were given to sell and most of it was aimed at the older generation. But thanks again for all you kind wishes and I can only hope that something better comes along to take the place of Richleys as its so sad to see shops empty and people out of work and small towns becoming more and more like ghost towns as times get harder. Kind reguards to you all.

This shop used to be really good when it was just Stewarts. I remember buying some ex-Gap tee shirts there for only £2 each and they used to sell ex Next & M & S lines. When it became Richleys the merchandise changed and became very dull and unexciting. That said, I wish the best of luck to the staff who are now out of a job. One more empty shop in this town. By the way, Jen is selling the sweet shop in Park Road to concentrate on sales in the Strand; you can't blame her!

Sad to hear that Jen is closing the Park Road shop. It is probably good business sense to locate to a premises on the Strand. Every time I visit Dawlish I stock up on sweets from Jen's. Jen is without doubt one of the jewel's in the crown of Dawlish, her uncanny knack of remembering faces of regular visitors like myself and my family make us feel welcome.

I too agree that the stock in the shop went from being decent to fuddy duddy. This i guess was its downfall. i like to support as many shops in the Town as i can but unfortunately it came to the stage where it wasnt worth visiting. Good luck in the future to all the friendly staff.
