A homeless couple, who were living in a tent in Dawlish until last week, are one of the first to acquire accommodation under a new scheme devised by the Teignbridge District Council.

The council has always been concerned about the homeless in Teignbridge and until now has generally been able to offer housing to those in this difficult situation. However, with the current cost of housing and limited social housing, things are proving to be a bit of a challenge.

The new scheme introduced to the region involves asking local people with spare rooms in their homes to offer accommodation to those who are homeless - a good idea perhaps, but one you might expect from a local charity rather than from a council.
