Looks like we're going to have another 270 homes in Dawlish. Is this good news or not?

I think we have enough empty houses in Dawlish.Treston House was demolished to make room for a housing estate which came to a standstill. I think the building company went bust.

Empty houses with rents that the ordinary people cant afford !!!!!!!!! What we need in Dawlish is more Social Housing, perhaps these developers will wake up in a minute and work with Housing Associations to give the young familes in this town what they need!!!!!!! No NIMBY replies please, heard it all before

I totally 100% agree with PJD. And this isn't just a local issue, but a nationwide one. I'm sure however, that a certain percentage of all housing developments have to be given over to affordable "social" housing. I'm confident this would be applicable re. Secmaton Lane.

What we need is a good old fashioned Socialist Government, not Blairs New Labour

Never since I have been able to hold a knife and fork. Born 1950 and not able to judge 1945-51 from my own experience but, judging by their achievements, they certainly had the hearts in the right place. Don

During my childhood there was a report each month on the news giving the total number of homes built.

agree Don there was an extensive building program during 50/60s, butthe downfall came when the right to buy was brought in and nothing much has been down to reduce the shortfall, which is what has contributed to the current situation. Instead of right to buy cash incentitives should have been used to encourage people who could afford to buy to move out of there local authority housing into the private sector.

right to buy was a good thing. it has allowed vast swathes of council estates , to lose that run down look. The problem has been that no social housing has been built to replace them.

And the population has increased - and continues to increase - to an alarming extent.
