The amendments to the order include deleting suggested restrictions at the west end of Barton Terrace, Barton Villas, Barton Crescent, and the retention of most of the parking at the east end of Barton Terrace and Stockton Hill. Spaces are being created in Brook Street, close to the Hedley Way Centre and Strand Hill, together with retaining the parking spaces in King Street. The loading- bays in Queen Street and Park Road have been dropped, but no waiting will be introduced on Strand Hill between Meldrum Close and Fey Road. Other issues include extending the time limit to a maximum of two hours parking in the Brunswick and to one hour, all year, in Albert Street. There is also no charge to park in Barton car park between 6pm and 9am.

Cllr John Clatworthy said: `At the meeting held last Friday, the amendments suggested by the Local Service Office following the special meeting of the town council were accepted. `The net effect of the proposals result in the loss of eight car parking spaces. This is excluding the removal of the seasonal restrictions.

`I can understand the concern with the loss and will be walking around the town centre with Andrew Butler of the Local Service Office to see if it possible to create further spaces with in the highway network by the removal of some double yellow lines where they are not considered essential.

`I am confident spaces can be identified and these, together with other outstanding highway issues in Dawlish, including Coryton Close, I suggest are discussed at a public meeting before any draft orders are published.

`Clearly, a balanced approach has to be taken following advice from officers, which reflects both safety and community requirements, but unfortunately, not everyone will be satisfied.

`I can say that the county council has recognised the concerns of the objectors and I will do what I can, as I am aware of the problems with parking.'
