As today's the 21st I thought a reminder wouldn't go amiss.

It's proving very popular and the guys down there are doing a great job, particularly in this heat.  Thanks to the Town Council for providing such a useful service.

Just been down great job guys, keep up the good work. Noticed a couple of theiving car booters there helping themselves, still I suppose it counts as re-cycling

Yep - we are now one old mattress,  one defunct lawn mower, and one broken microwave lighter 'n all.

Many thanks (and just goes to show how much a local tip service is needed?).

People down there seeing what's being discarded? Personally I don't have a problem with that after all one person's rubbish is another person's "that's just what I've been looking for" and if any of it is sold off at boot fairs etc then is there a problem? Entrepreneurship 'n all that.

It is going great guns, just been speaking to the guys working there and they are very pleased.  Dawlish folk are being very helpful to chaps working hard in this heat.

We will be doing it twice more this financial year, 25 October at Barton Car Park and 14 March at the Warren.

Council skip at Sandy Lane car park 001

The guys working there today were fantastic!

Speaking to one of them he said it would have been nice to have seen a couple of councillors there so they could see the need for the much needed tip at the Shutterton.

One lady i was speaking to said she didn't realise it was today until someone had told her she said it wasn't in this weeks Dawlish Gazette and she also asked the Information Centre and they  had no knowledge of it.

Blimey looking at that picture Ziggy I can see sellable 'rubbish' just jumping out at me screaming to be upcycled (and I so hope it was and not just broken up). I can see three bikes, some garden chairs, a bedside cabinet (could always be repainted to make it more fashionable) and a couple of small tables. It does make me wonder what other treasures were there to be salvaged.

Like I said "one person's rubbish .........................."

(big advert about this in last week's (June 11th) Gazette)

Hi Ziggy

I was there earlier today and identified myself to all the guys working there, and thanked them for all their hard work.  None made that remark to me, but I do agree that a permanent recycling site would be a boon.   Sadly that's up to Teignbridge, and they are very clear that there is no budget for this.

The Town Council has tried to help, hence 3 skips this year.  Looking at the list of where these skip days are held we are the only one of the larger parish councils in Teignbridge to buy in this service.  We did advertise it in the Dawlish Gazette 10 days ago.  Our judgement was that people would prefer longer notice than just a couple of days.  I made a point of listing it on both the social media sites, and "Bumping" the message to keep it current.  I also stuck a sign up on the entrance board to Sandy Lane two weeks ago (And got threatened with a ticket by a parking officer, but thats a whole different story ....)       I guess the proof of whether that worked is in the number of people that turned up today.

It didnt occur to me that anyone would ask at the Tourist Information Centre about recycling skips, but I will ensure that they know about the further two skip days we have planned .....

On this issue of repainting old furniture in order to bring it up to date.............

Take a look inside The Snooky Trust. I was in there today. Up by the counter is a glass cabinet (Edwardian type style/age - I know because we have an almost identical one in our garage). It has been repainted and looks, I think, stunning. I gather from overhearing a conversation between Caz and someone else (sorry, didn't mean to eavesdrop but I was ever so, ever so, near you) that it was destined for the tip but someone who could see its potential rescued it. Well done that person!
