With the huge landslips on the Jurassic coast and the loss of a fabulous hotel on the cliff tops in Scarborough........who would risk their life to have a pint in the Mount Pleasant Inn?

Surely it is only a matter of time before this meets the same fate, especially as some moron hacked down the trees that acted as a land stabilizer to the rear of the pub. Does greed know no bounds?

The huge section of the Jurassic coastline took only a matter of seconds to collapse , how many milli-seconds will it take for the mount to dismount?

Good point, but the cliffs there aren't quite as unstable as they are at Scarboro'. It's just a fairly poor hotel that has pretentions and like most businesses in Dawlish, could and should be far better.

I wouldn't want to be in the new holiday homes below the Mount Pleasant, I'm surprised they got planning permission for that and also the car park right below the cliff!!

Land owned by town councillors or their friends and family?

Land owned by a councillor (also ex Mayor)AND his family. I wonder how that planning application got through?!! The Warren belongs to us ALL yet they treat it as their own personal playground, altering whatever they wish without a care to others.

The apartments they have built are over-sized and reminiscent of a tarted up remand block. I expect the tariff is over-sized as well? No wonder the majority of people holiday abroad....

Is it true that there are cracks appearing in the walls and the tenants are frantically trying to paper them over?

you would have to expect cracks in newish plaster anyway. but i have to say that this little development has done absolutely nothing to enhance the area at all. the warren should be a little gem when you look at what any developers are able to work with. ie a beautiful coastline with sand (when exmouth haven't borrowed it), a beautiful nature reserve, unique golf course, coastline railway. I suppose that the new holiday home development however, just enhances the tacky concrete jungle that is now there anyway. i have to say that the mount should be a little gold mine with its quite stunning views. I generally walk there and back everyday from dawlish and stop for a liquid refreshment.

Hi Bob, glad to see you are back.
The thread is referring to the Mount Pleasant Inn and not the new apartments. The apartments are lying under the Mount Pleasant Inn and should that drinking hole meet the same fate as other coastline places up and down the country have met, then good by to the new developments. I wonder what the insurance premiums are having sited the apartments in such a risky location? I have heard that to drink in the Mount, you need to take out an overdraft with your bank just in case you get an unexpected hike in the charges.

Does anyone know how he got planning to build those flats on a flood plain and also reduce the value of three flats in Lee Cliff Park by building a brick wall infront of the lounge of those flats even though they objected, also how did he get the protection orders lifted on the three trees he cut down.
Was it Brown envelope time??

This species( Prestigeus Corruptus ) can usually be detected through it's plumage of Black Bow Tie, White Shirt and Black Cummerbund. In recent times some sub-species ( Prestigeus Corruptus Dickus ) have also been spotted, with their variant plumage of multi-coloured waistcoats and neck-ties.

Both of the above tend to mate with Prestigeus Vulgaris.

Current reports suggest that despite the efforts of Rotary and Roundtable these species are in steep decline and look set to join the Dodo.....

My memory on this is a bit rusty, but are these flats the ones I read about in the local paper on a planning appeal that were described as like something from a Soviet Gulag by the Council? And in mitigation it was said that the holiday makers at the Warren wouldn't want anything better? Approved on that basis. Can't remember the exact wording but I think application was for Protheroe jnr and his dad properly declared an interest.

But I thought these were supposed to be 'upmarket' holiday flats.

That's the problem with these people at the Mount Pleasant....they think they're upmarket. In reality, it is more akin to a greasy spoon with a wine list.....full of people who also subscribe to this superior attitude, not realising that they are paying through the nose for the view.

Never been to the greasy spoon myself but have passed it on the bus many times. As there is always an element of safety in the blurb that emanates from him (Protheroe) from time to time, I notice several times because of the parking arrangements they have, how pedestrians are forced to walk in the road when they try and pass the greasy spoon. Now wouldn't you think that a man of his so called upstanding in society would move the car parking back a little?
