If you looked at the plans, and admittedly not everyone finds it easy to read such drawings, you'd see that the original scheme was for a skate park with a clear height of nearly six metres, and this was set below ground level. The new scheme is for workshops, etc., needing about three metre (ten feet) clear height and set on the ground. Assuming that the upper floor stays much as before, the ...

From all his/her unnecessary prevarication I must assume that Siren is the occupant of the caravan and doesn't want to be moved on. Are they displaying a parking ticket ?

If we are all going to be facetious in these exchanges I suggest you close this site. Dawlish relies on tourism for its economy to survive. It is also provided with more self catering holiday caravans, and camp sites where families can bring their dogs away on holiday with them. Consequently, there are a very large number of people who come into the town and would like somewhere to take a meal ...

It's interesting that at a public meeting recently over 80% of the audience raised their hands and admitted that they do their main shopping at supermarkets outside Dawlish. That means that Dawlish is not a shopping destination for most of the people in the town. We also know that there are very few full time or part-time jobs available in Dawlish and yet there has been employment land allocated ...

Just save your fingers until a planning application appears in the local paper - they are published weekly - go have a look at the application and then make yourself heard. You may not have to wait too long.

So far the replies have been pretty unhelpful. The answer depends a bit on your budget and you will have to look around the area. The Rodean restaurant in Kenton and the Owl and the Pussy Cat in Teignmouth offer fine menus; the Mount Pleasant Inn at Dawlish Warren does a reliable line in grills and pub meals (and is quite pleasant now that smoking is prohibited); the Indian restaurant in Park Road ...

Oh dear, how the rumours fly around and get everything in a tangle. The report is incomplete at this stage, and makes for difficult reading without all the images and plans. It was offered to the councils to make sure there was nothing that would prove impossible to carry through. I said 'leaked' because it is not in the best state for people to read and they could save the for for the final ...

I'd just like to say that this (leaked) report is very difficult to read in this format. Dawlish Community Trust have been steering this effort and offered this first draft from the consultants' team to the three tiers of local government (Devon, Teignbridge and Dawlish) and to the funding body (South West Regional Development Agency). It may look as though the Town Council's comments are ...

I've not got time to watch for two hours when the first two minutes give me just a kaleidoscope of pessimism. If you can't say what it is in two lines I suggest you leave us in peace.

Ghost Town

There's a lot of sense in Anon's comments. A strong competitor for some of the existing monopolies in Dawlish (butcher, green-grocer) might encourage them to work harder at getting customers. Both of these businesses have much more impressive premises in Teignmouth or Sidwell Street, Exeter, which shows that they are capable of offering better facilities here too. A proper supermarket on the edge ...
