I have been informed that the Council propose selling Sandy lane fields for development. With the removal of the Golf Course this is now classed as redundant land. I have also been informed that TESCO are in with an offer. May I remind you that this land was gifted to the residents of Dawlish for their recreation. It should be classed as a 'Village Green' but the Council refused the application, WHY?

Don't ask Jeeves, ask Roy.

Thanks for the vote of confidence Viaduct.

For clarity, it was Devon County Council who refused the application by a ragtag bunch of individuals led by Lynne Nicholls, which used the moniker Dawlish Against Developing Sandy Lane playing fields.

The application was sent without anywhere near the level of detail that would be expected. Therefore, after asking for more information and then receiving nothing from the applicant for FOUR whole months, the DCC decided to decline the application.

Although I quite often read postings on this website I'm not in the habit of writing. However, having been mentioned by name here is my 'take' on the Village Green application outcome.

You are correct in saying it was Devon County Council who refused the Village Green application but why do you refer to those who tried to get Sandy Lane Playing Fields protected via Village Green status as a "ragtag bunch"? At least we tried to do something even if ultimately we failed.

Perhaps there should have been more detail in the original application but I'm not a professional when it comes to Village Green applications Roy - just someone who was, and is, trying to protect the fields from being built on and contrary to what you state I was not the main instigator of that Village Green application. I believe the reason no further information was forthcoming to DCC was because advice was given to DADS to hold back in pursuing the Village Green application as other avenues were being investigated re how to protect the land. Indeed I believe meetings took place between the organisation involved (Fields in Trust) and officers of Teignbridge District Council. Unfortunately the FIT option was also rejected. If you wish to know why I suggest you contact TDC and ask.

At least we have tried to get those playing fields some protection. What about you Roy, what have you been doing?

It should be classed as a 'Village Green' but the Council refused the application, WHY? Because they are a bunch of self serving back hand taking thief's and liars who have become elected through the shear idleness soap TV watching public's lack of interest in standing for election.

Can you be clearer about your information? Who has informed you? Which Council? Who classified it as redundant land? When did Tesco make their offer, and to whom? Did you attend the meeting some three years ago in the Community College hall when Alan Connett said that Sandy Lane was not up for sale? He hasn't yet changed his tune and he is Leader of TDC.
