Man denies murder.

A man today pleaded not guilty to attempting to murder his estranged police officer wife. Ian Hurved, 53, of Dorset Avenue, Exeter, also denied a charge of wounding with intent at Exeter Crown Court. He was taken to Torbay Hospital, where he had an emergency operation, but his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening. A Woman suffered slight ill effects from breathing in smoke during a chip shop fire at Dawlish. But she did not need hospital attention, or an ambulance and soon recovered. Two appliances, one from Dawlish and the other from Teignmouth, were called to the premises in Queen Street yesterday morning, but the fire was out on arrival. The outbreak was in ventilation ducting.
